Position Available: Director of Faith Formation/ Youth Ministry / Evangelization
Saint Mary Catholic Catholic church seeks a full-time Director of Faith Formation and Youth/Young Adult Ministry/Evangelization.
The parish is located in Goldsboro, Wayne County, located in the Diocese of Raleigh, North Carolina.
The parish has about 650 registered families and about 150 unregistered.
The vision of faith formation would encompass the entire range from preschool thru adult education using a Whole Community Catechesis or a similar model to be determined along with the pastor. The applicant would plan and develop curriculum, enlist catechists, and engage adults in deepening their faith through enrichment opportunities. The Director would also act as the Parish Child Protection Director or with the advice of the pastor delegate someone else for this ministry.
The applicant will be responsible for a comprehensive parish faith formation program from Baptismal catechesis through Adult Faith Formation. The mission of the DFF will be to help deepen people’s relationship with Jesus Christ in the context of proclaiming the Catholic faith, and to assist them in living the Gospel mandates to love God, love neighbor and make disciples, in line with the Pastoral Plan of the Diocese of Raleigh.
In the youth ministry component of this position, the applicant will develop different sections of youth groups to meet on a regular basis: especially Middle and High School. Presence to the youth and visibility at Mass would be very important. The director will also oversee summer VBS, promote and when possible attend Catholic Heart Work Camp and support diocesan Formation and Youth events and programs. The Coordinator is passionate to work with teens, has Good Organizational Skills, has been part of a Youth Ministry Program, is willing to collaborate with Pastor, Parish staff, Parents and Parishioners and is Highly Relational.
Evangelization efforts would obviously be woven into Faith Formation and Youth Ministry. Yet, the component of Evangelization includes a planned strategy of reaching out, not only to those who are not Catholic, but to re-evangelize those already Catholic, but dormant in the practice of the faith.
All applicants must actively practice their Catholic faith and embrace the magisterial teachings of the Church. Additionally, they must have a passion for Jesus Christ, liturgy and prayer. As this is a ministerial role, consistent pastoral presence is necessary.
The Director of Faith Formation/youth Ministries will be a member of the parish's Pastoral Staff, pastoral council and work full-time, and report to the Pastor. The person will manage a part-time Youth Formation Minister.
The applicant should have at least a BA degree and preferably has knowledge of Life Teen, Edge and some training and experience in Pastoral Ministry.
It is preferable that the candidate has a Certification or degree in Theology with experience and/or credentials in catechetics. A master’s degree is preferred, however every degreed candidate will be considered.
The director reports to the pastor and enjoys working along with a capable and collaborative staff. The Director enlists volunteer assistants as needed.
The successful applicant must possess a work ethic rooted in the vision and heart of the Church. Organizational skills are absolutely critical. Inter-personal “people skills”, a generous and joyful disposition and collaboration will ensure successful ministry outcomes for all ages.
Proficiency in computer skills, website and communications are essential. Candidates with instrumental and/or vocal skills would be a big plus.
All applicants must be able to supply PA child abuse, PA criminal, clearances to complete the hiring process, along with fully complying with all diocesan child protection policies.
This is a great opportunity to catechize and form others in a lifelong experience of the Catholic Faith in a small town with many generous parishioners. Living in Goldsboro will facilitate such an opportunity and demonstrates commitment to the parish.
Salary / benefits are negotiable upon demonstrated skill set and experience. It would be helpful to indicate in your cover letter your desired range of compensation.
