If one member suffers in the Body of Christ, which is the Church, all the members suffer with that member. This is the Catholic principle that is at the heart of the Ministry to the Homebound, Sick, and Dying.
This ministry is, most importantly, a ministry of love, compassion, and caring for our fellow members of the Mystical Body of Christ, the Church. While still part of our Parish Community, there are members which can no longer be with us physically in our Masses, Services, or Parish Functions. These are who this ministry serves.
"It is thus especially fitting that all baptized Christians share in this ministry of mutual charity within the Body of Christ by doing all they can to help the sick return to health, by showing love for the sick, and by celebrating the sacraments with them. Like the other sacraments, these too have a community aspect, which should be brought out as much as possible when they are celebrated." - Source: General Introduction - Pastoral Care for the Sick.
